About the Perfomance:

One of the iconic characters of the world literature gets a new interpretation in the production of the famous Russian actor and director Alexander Galibin, who proves the exceptional heroine of the play to differ from any seen yet, whereas the storyline of the novel is well preserved in his show.

“We changed title into ‘Tragedy of Anna’ as there is no real experience of this genre in our theatre, which is a difficult one indeed. And to be true there are rare artists who can perfectly embody inward feelings of a human onstage. Therefore this performance is our attempt to communicate with audience by the version emphasizing what was not literary illustrated but still lies in the subtext: starting from the philosophical themes of love and the possibility of happiness that permeate Tolstoy’s novel. The way I see it whatever happens on stage is a stream of consciousness of the main heroine. I am sure there should be a lot of fun, a lot of humor, a lot of tragic moments while the show and we should be able to get pleasure from all of this "-  Alexander Galibin, Director of the play.

A woman without a past and future. The woman who destroys. Mystical figure, demonic character. Anna Karenina is faced with the fact that she does not know her own self and her desires. Does she love Vronsky? Does he hate Karenin? Does she need a son? And why in the end of story she rushes under the train? This is not a love story. Not the story of treason. This is a tragedy: ancient Greek, universal. This chorus of voices is in Karenina's head, a chorus of her passions and desires that push her into the arms of a man to be rebuffed by her own life in return.
